i first got into 40k with the orks. then i moved on to the necrons when i read in white dwarf that the designers made them 'lovecraftian'. that got me hooked. chaos came about on a whim. i quit smoking at that time and i had so much lose change that i picked up the army box set. the sisters of battle have long appealed to me so when they got repackaged with the witch hunter codex, i started the army. woman with joan of arc complexes and guns appeal to me i guess..lol

Hey,

I am done with the brunt of my work so I guess I can properly resume some internet things.

I think Jodie picked up a used version of the fantasy battle rules and I picked up a used version of the ancient battle rules. Hopefully, I can tgake up the hobby when I graduate. Oh yeah, I need money for that hahaha sigh...

>i first got into 40k with the orks.

I really don't know what to make of the orks. I don't think I would play them for 40k but I might play them for fantasy. I read through the whole gromgar thing and think a set of ardboys might be fun. I also read up on a 2000 pt night goblin horde army. THAT looked interesting though I wouldn't play it-- the majority of the army was night goblins. Their ranks streached entirely across a six or eight foot wide table.

>>then i moved on to the necrons when i read in white dwarf that the designers made them 'lovecraftian'. that got me hooked.

I don't knwo what to make of them. The fluff seems kinda Lovecraftian but that is about it. I am REALLY confused about the C'Tan models. It doesn't make sense to me. How can a Star God manifest in a battle and get taken out? Not much of a God in my mind.

>>chaos came about on a whim. i quit smoking at that time and i had so much lose change that i picked up the army box set.

If I was going to play Chaos it would probably be a Malal army. I'd like to make a set of anti-heroes out to get chaos. Kinda like ghost rider.

>>the sisters of battle have long appealed to me so when they got repackaged with the witch hunter codex, i started the army. woman with joan of arc complexes and guns appeal to me i guess..lol

I think you've played nuns with guns too much.

I've decided that I will start with a dwarven army in fantasy. I'd like to check out the high elves, but I don't like the look of the models. If I played them it would be for the magic. Actually, all the other armies I would like to play would be magic heavy: lizzies and tombkings.

I have been checking out 40k stuff and I think I would definitely start with Imperial Guard. Everything else seems a bit too over the top for me. I also saw this article on fielding an armoured division. That would be great (unless I was up against tank killers), though I think a tad expensive...

I think the only other things I would play would be eldar or ultramarines. I ahve always liked the eldar-- though I hear they are underpowered right now??? I know the ultramarines are a bit for noobs but I like the colour scheme and they seem more on the level than the other chapters.

i have about 2500 points of orcs for fantasy. i made a mistake with them, they are not like 40k orks, much weaker in fact and i can't seem to win with them. i should have went with dwarves. good choice with that btw...the dwarves have a new army book and models coming out.

as to the c'tan, they can't die, they come back after there necrodermis is destroyed...yeah i know, lame. the necrons are my least favourite army but it so damn easy to collect and paint.

IG is another army i want but the cost is too much for me. all those minis and tank models. i'm thinking about making a light infantry unit, actual marines with the landing craft and amphibous vehicles.

Really, I've heard that they are strong and it is only the animosity that kills them. How do you see them as weaker?

I'll probably get the book new but get the models used. I can't believe how expensive GW stuff is!!! I was walking about ToysRUs the other day (ugh) and I saw the prices on other things that could be do-able in a table top war game. Man, I don't understand why they keep things jacked up like that.

Are they the least favorite due to the fluff or due to their play? I read what you said on the forums about the C'Tan and I agree. If they had the same thing but made it some sort of avatar or spiritual servant then I could go with it, but the fluff ruins it for me. Myself, I don't think I could get into the necrons.

On that note, do you think GW has unbalanced their game with all the armies they have out. I mean gamewise it doesn't matter. They could have 1000 and a game would be a game. I just think that having 3 or 4 forces of impending doom (necron, nid, chaos and maybe ork) is just too much. I really don't see how they can resolve it with out being too flakey... having the necrons and nids wipe themselves out or something like that.

Sounds great. I just love the idea of running over the enemy in a bunch of tanks. I don't know who could afford it though. Each tank is what? $50 US. I'll get'em from ebay.

Danzig told me that GW might come out with a warhammer historical WW2 rules. That would be fun. I briefly talked to him about crossovers with that and 40k. You could get a lot of good scenarios out of it.

i have bad luck with fantasy. maybe it's just me. a night gobbo army is one of the best, if not the most unreliable since a lot of your special units can come back to hurt you.

GW being expensive has long been a point of contention amongst players. it has high quality models compared to other gaming companies and like any other game in this business, it's a niche hobby. if warhammer was popular like risk, we would see the low prices.

i read once that GW hires statiticians to crunch the numbers. every army is balanced, believe it or not. every army has a weakness that can be exploited. the necrons phase out when there numbers reach 25% of the original starting force and they have no real long distance shooting and they are not that great in close combat.

i have a link to unofficial WW2 rules...http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kpavlick/ww2/ww2intro.htm

orks
so what do you have for your orks army?

I would be interested to know.

Why do you think you can't win with them? What is your usual lists?
